VICE PROVOST FOR THE FACULTY
Re: Delegation of Authority for Faculty Discipline and Related Duties
I am redelegating to your role as Vice Provost for the Faculty the authority to act as Chancellor’s designee for
faculty disciplinary matters. These duties are to be carried out in a manner consistent with applicable University
and campus policies and procedures, including: APM-015/016, Senate Bylaw 336, and the 2023 Procedure for
the Resolution of Senate Faculty Misconduct Complaints and the Administration of Discipline or its successor
document. This delegation includes authority to consult the Peer Review Committee and Committee on
charges, review the investigative report, decide whether to lodge a formal complaint, negotiate a settlement, and
file disciplinary charges with the committee on Privilege and Tenure.
This delegation of authority excludes those actions that the APM specifies are non-delegable, such as reduction
in salary, demotion, suspension, and dismissal from the employ of the university.
This authority may be further redelegated to an appropriate senior administrator as needed. Any redelegation of
authority shall be in writing, with a copy to the Campus Delegations of Authority Coordinator at
contactdelegations@berkeley.edu.
This delegation is effective immediately and supersedes previous delegations regarding these matters.
Signed,
Benjamin E. Hermalin
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
cc: David Robinson, Chief Campus Counsel
Jaime Jue, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Audit and Advisory Services
Sharon Inkelas, Deputy Ethics, Risk & Compliance Officer
