Policy Summary

It is the policy of the University of California, Berkeley Campus, to control feral animals when they are creating health hazards to members of the Campus community, disrupting teaching or research, damaging Campus property, or creating a nuisance. Feral animals include cats, raccoons, skunks, and dogs. Pest Management will trap the problem animals and either deliver them to the City of Berkeley's Animal Care Services Center or release them in an approved wild area. If the animal is dead, contact the City of Berkeley's Animal Care Services Center at 981-6600 (not the number listed in the original policy).

Procedures

It is the policy of the University of California, Berkeley Campus, to control feral animals when they are creating health hazards to members of the Campus community, disrupting teaching or research, damaging Campus property, or creating a nuisance. 

Feral animals include cats, raccoons, skunks, dogs, etc.  For cat, raccoon, and skunk problems, contact the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) at 642-4400.  EH&S will live trap the problem animal and either deliver it to the Berkeley Animal Control Center, or release it in an approved wild area.  If the animal is dead, contact the Berkeley Animal Control Center at 644-6755, and they will dispatch an officer to pick it up.  For dogs which are easily accessible (e.g., trapped in a classroom), or are a continual problem in a specific area (e.g., in outdoor dining facilities), contact the Berkeley Animal Control Center, and they will dispatch an animal control officer to assist you.
