Major Events Hosted by Non-Departmental Users

This policy places terms and conditions on the hosting of events by individuals other than current employees of the University of California acting within the course and scope of University employment and organizations other than academic and administrative departments of the University of California ("non-department users"). These terms and conditions include obtaining written permission from the campus to host Major Events.

Research Space for Emeriti

The highest priorities for space in academic departments are offices for regular faculty, research space for regular faculty, and offices for administrators, graduate student instructors, lecturers, and temporary teaching faculty. Space is also used for study facilities, computer rooms, departmental shops, commons, and other special uses that support particular departmental needs. Of necessity, the assignment of research space to emeritus professors is discretionary and it should not adversely affect the quantity or quality of research space provided for regular faculty members.

Post-Earthquake Building Evaluation

Establishes a protocol for effectively evaluating buildings following a seismic event and communicating the evaluation data to campus leadership, in order to ensure that appropriate resources are brought to bear immediately following a seismic event and to shorten the time needed to return to business as usual.

Water Protection

Establishes roles and responsibilities for protecting and enhancing the environmental quality of state and local waterways in accordance with the federal Clean Water Act, the state Porter- Cologne Water Quality Control Act, other federal, state, and local regulations, and other campus policies.

Cal 1 Card Policy

The Cal 1 Card – UC Berkeley's official photo ID card – was designed to provide a standardized and secure medium via which active members of the campus community identify their affiliation and their respective eligibility for access to applicable campus services, benefits, and facilities. Use of the Cal 1 Card, its data elements, and all associated card technologies – including all hardware and software leveraging or interfacing with said technologies – must be pre-approved by the Cal 1 Card Program, Campus Facility Services, the Office of the Registrar, and/or Berkeley People & Culture as applicable.

Allocation of Electrical Capacity

This policy describes the process and requirements for allocating available electrical capacity to new capital projects. The campus has a specific amount of electrical capacity available within its existing high voltage infrastructure. Exceeding this capacity will necessitate the construction, well in advance of the need, of additional substations on campus property and added service from the utility supplier. In order to avoid this investment as long as possible, it is essential that the existing capacity be allocated judiciously to support campus priorities.

Energy Use

The University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) will manage its operations so that energy and carbon is used in the most sustainable manner possible while providing a safe and comfortable environment for teaching, research, and public service.

Assessment and Distribution of the Campus Philanthropic Allocation and Research Administrative Fee

It is the policy of the University of California, Berkeley to offset a portion of the costs of advancement activities and administering research gift funds, and to provide funding for deferred maintenance, by assessing a philanthropic allocation OR research administrative fee on each gift. For non-research gifts, gifts are assessed a philanthropic allocation of 7.5%. For research gifts, defined as funds to support the research of one or more specified faculty members acting as Principal Investigators (PIs) for a specific research project, OR as general research support for a specified PI, gifts are assessed a research administrative fee of 13%.

Policy on Philanthropic Gift Fund Minima

It is the policy of the University of California, Berkeley to establish philanthropic gift funds capitalized by donors at the following levels effective July 1, 2017:

Defines campuswide policy (vs. guidelines or practice) and sets forth a uniform process for developing, approving, and promoting campuswide policies.
