Staff Participation in Campus-Sponsored Activities, Including Sponsored Staff Organizations, Campus Sponsored Fellowship Programs, and other campus-sponsored events

Consistent with applicable personnel policies and collective bargaining agreements, campus unit managers are expected to provide staff members time to participate in campus-sponsored activities that support learning and development, networking, engagement, and community building consistent with the mission and goals of the University.

Responsibility for Environment, Health and Safety

The Environment, Health and Safety Policy Committee, as delegated by the Chancellor, sets environmental, health, and safety policy for the campus. In accordance with these policies, students, faculty, staff, administrators, visitors, and guests have responsibilities for complying, implementing, communicating and/or ensuring adherence to environmental, health and safety regulations, principles and practices. The Office of Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) provides technical expertise, consulting assistance, and services to assure compliance with legal requirements.

Reading/Review/Recitation Period

Reading, Review, and Recitation (RRR) Week is the week following the end of formal class instruction and preceding the start of final exams and is intended for students to have free time to prepare for exams, to work on final papers and projects, and to participate in review sessions and meetings with instructors. RRR week is based on the pedagogical principle that students benefit from time devoted to synthesizing the course material learned over the course of the semester.

Public Nudity and Sexually Offensive Conduct

Prohibits lewd or sexually offensive conduct, including indecent exposure and public nudity, on the Berkeley campus, other than in appropriate visual or performing arts productions or academic programs or classes scheduled or sponsored by campus academic units or departments, as determined and formally approved by the departmental chair or unit director, with appropriate notification to audiences as applicable.

Reasonable Accommodation and the Interactive Process, Staff

When employees become unable to perform the essential, assigned duties of their currently-held position as a result of a covered disability, the campus is committed to providing services to assist them. This includes efforts at reasonable accommodation that allow employees to perform the essential, assigned duties of their position. The campus will explore reasonable accommodation options when an employee requests accommodation, or when there is evidence that an employee may need accommodation due to a covered disability. Accommodation options will be considered in discussions with the employee.

Policy on the Use of the University Name, Seals, and Trademarks

Clarifies the permissible uses, and restrictions on the uses, of the University of California 's name and seal, as well as the Berkeley campus' name, seal, and trademarks; identifies the appropriate offices on campus and in the Office of the President from which to seek authorization for use of the name, seal, and trademarks and to arrange for licensing of the name, seal, or trademarks

Office of Business Contracts and Brand Protection: Business Contract Policy

Any University of California, Berkeley personnel or unit (e.g. department, school, college, research lab, administrative office, etc.) (“Department”) seeking to engage in a business contract with an outside party (e.g. individual, educational institution, state government, agency, company, etc.) (“Outside Party”) should seek guidance on whether they have the delegated authority to execute such a contract on behalf of The Regents of the University of California (“University”). The University policies for executing contracts are complex and governed by numerous delegations of authority (https://compliance.berkeley.edu/execute-agreements(link is external)) and policies (https://policy.ucop.edu/doc/3620683/BFB-BUS-10(link is external)).

Memorial Trees and Dedicated Benches

The Campus Landscape Architect manages requests for gifts of tree planting on campus in the memory of a member of the faculty, students, or staff. The following conditions apply to the acceptance of a gift to plant a tree. The Space Assignments and Capital Improvements Committee (SACI) reviews requests for dedicated benches on the campus, in consultation with the Campus Landscape Architect.

Mobile Food Facilities

Mobile food facilities (MFFs) are allowed on the University of California, Berkeley campus only as part of an approved special event providing a benefit to the campus, or when installed in a fixed location associated with a campus building for permanent operation under permit issued by EH&S. Their operation is subject to approval by Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) and the campus police (UCPD). Mobile food facilities include, but are not limited to, trucks, trailers, carts, bicycles, and may include auxiliary equipment such as portable fryers, stoves, and grills that are located adjacent to the MFF during operation.
