Emergency Evacuation Preparedness Policy

UC Berkeley is committed to promoting the safety and well-being of the entire campus community (students, faculty, staff, volunteers, and visitors). Should an event occur that necessitates the evacuation of a building, the evacuation of a section of campus, or the evacuation of the entire campus, UC Berkeley students, faculty, staff, and volunteers must follow the instructions of emergency personnel and otherwise comply with the procedures defined in this policy.

Other Power-Driven Mobility Devices (OPDMD)

UC Berkeley must allow people with disabilities who use manual or power wheelchairs or scooters, and manually-powered mobility aids such as walkers, crutches, and canes, into all areas open to pedestrian use by members of the public. This policy also covers areas at UC Berkeley that are not open to the public.

Access Control

This policy is intended to ensure that the people requesting campus keys are authorized to get them; that key holders are held accountable for the return of keys; and that problems resulting from a lack of key control are quickly and effectively resolved. Individuals and/or departments that create a key control problem should be held accountable. Generally, this would mean financial responsibility for correcting the problem, but if the problem is criminal in nature, the campus would pursue legal remedies as appropriate.

Vehicle Access to Campus

All vehicles coming onto the University of California, Berkeley campus must observe the driving and parking regulations in this policy.

Responsibility for Environment, Health and Safety

The Environment, Health and Safety Policy Committee, as delegated by the Chancellor, sets environmental, health, and safety policy for the campus. In accordance with these policies, students, faculty, staff, administrators, visitors, and guests have responsibilities for complying, implementing, communicating and/or ensuring adherence to environmental, health and safety regulations, principles and practices. The Office of Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) provides technical expertise, consulting assistance, and services to assure compliance with legal requirements.

Public Nudity and Sexually Offensive Conduct

Prohibits lewd or sexually offensive conduct, including indecent exposure and public nudity, on the Berkeley campus, other than in appropriate visual or performing arts productions or academic programs or classes scheduled or sponsored by campus academic units or departments, as determined and formally approved by the departmental chair or unit director, with appropriate notification to audiences as applicable.

Mobile Food Facilities

Mobile food facilities (MFFs) are allowed on the University of California, Berkeley campus only as part of an approved special event providing a benefit to the campus, or when installed in a fixed location associated with a campus building for permanent operation under permit issued by EH&S. Their operation is subject to approval by Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) and the campus police (UCPD). Mobile food facilities include, but are not limited to, trucks, trailers, carts, bicycles, and may include auxiliary equipment such as portable fryers, stoves, and grills that are located adjacent to the MFF during operation.

Limited Emergencies

This policy establishes a protocol for effectively responding to limited emergencies, including the designation of the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) staff as the primary Limited Emergency Response Coordinators (LERC).
