UCB-DA-010 Inventions, Patents, and Innovation Transfer (2024)

Brief description of delegated authority:

Pursuant to the Presidential Policy on Inventions, Patents, and Innovation Transfer (IP Policy), I am delegating to your role as Vice Chancellor for Research the authority regarding exemptions and exceptions to the IP Policy, which became effective July 1, 2024, and supersedes the 1997 Presidential Patent Policy. As noted in the IP Policy:

A. Patent/IP Acknowledgment. ... Campus Chancellors, the Vice President, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Laboratory Director and their delegates may authorize exemptions and exceptions from signing the Patent/IP Acknowledgment, provided that such exemptions or exceptions are consistent with other University policies, applicable laws, and third-party obligations.


D. Exceptions. In special circumstances, it may be in the best interests of the University to enter into agreements that require exceptions to this policy. Campus Chancellors, the Vice President, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Laboratory Director and their delegates may authorize such exceptions in accordance with other University policies, applicable laws, and third-party obligations.


Effective immediately, I delegate to you the authority to approve exemptions and exceptions from this requirement. Such exemptions or exceptions must be consistent with all other University policies, applicable laws, and third-party obligations. Exception requests must be submitted to the Office of Technology Licensing using the Request/Approval for Exception to the Policy on Inventions, Patents, and Innovation Transfer form.
